The theme for Spirit of the Fourth 2024 was "Volunteers are the "Spark" of our community". The parade Grand Marshals were RB military service veteran residents with a long history of volunteerism: Tom Lettington, Mike Fuqua, and Don Schmidt.
The theme for 2022 was
"Grateful to Celebrate Together Again"
This theme celebrated our return to a full range of Sprit of the Fourth Activities, now that the COVID-19 pandemic that has caused great stress on all of us has shown some signs of easing.
We celebrated July 4th, 2023 with, again, a full range of activities.
The "Theme" for 2023 was "The Sounds Of Freedom".
The Spirit of the Fourth Parade Grand Marshal was Ms Lisa Friedrichs, recently retired music director at Rancho Bernardo High School.
Her "Court" will be a selection of representatives from her small group of singers "The Madrigals". Lisa and the Madrigals have provided patriotic music for programs of the Rancho Bernardo Veterans Memorial Association for many years.
The schedule of events for 2023 was very similar to the events scheduled for 2022.
Sponsorship is vital for the financing of the Spirit of the Fourth annual activities. For 2022 Lucia Capital Group
has agreed to be an "EVENT SPONSOR".
This will be the first of many sponsorships as the Spirit of the Fourth Committee plans a full range of July Fourth activities for 2022. WATCH THIS SPACE !!!
The Rancho Bernardo Spirit of the Fourth Committee held a fundraiser event at the Seven Oaks Community Center on Saturday, April 30th from 4:30 to 8:00 PM: Ron Stubbs Comedy & Hypnosis Show. The show was to help the RB Spirit of the Fourth Committee raise funds to cover the costs of producing the Rancho Bernardo Old Fashion Independence Day Celebration on the 4th of July. This includes: The Community Fair, Independence Day Parade, Wheels of Freedom Motor Show, and the evening program and Fireworks Display at Bernardo Heights Middle School. If you would like to have a very fun evening, and help fund the fireworks, here?s your opportunity. The event was a huge event. Those in attendance expressed delight at the performer's show and said they would love to see him again.
Antique, Old & Classic Cars and Trucks on display
Do you have a classic ride? Why not show it on the 4th in RB.

We look forward to seeing as many of them as we can and honoring them for keeping the Spirit alive through our fifty years of celebrations.

Larry McIntyre: 1995
Brian Habib 2003
Steve DeMatteo: 2010-2013
Bryan Brigham: 2014-2015
Dave Brooks: 2016-2024
For the past several years we have focused on themes that recognize veterans, first responders, youth and education. Since this was the 50th anniversary of Spirit of the Fourth, we decided to change the focus to be our organization and what we have accomplished during those 50 years. Therefore, the 2019 theme was:
Spirit of the Fourth
"Celebrating Our Golden Year"
The full printed program of the 2019 Spirit of the Fourth Celebration was distributed to about 20,000 homes in the area on June 27th. For an advanced look, please click here to download a copy.

We Need Your Help
In order for our celebration to be a success, we need to raise about $70,000. Your donation enables us to continue providing special events which include the parade and our spectacular fireworks display!
If you had fun this year or last year and/or are planning to enjoy the celebration next year, please consider contributing. Our sponsors provide some of the funding, but we rely on members of the community to meet the budget. Thank You!
